Themes Of Daniel (Scofield Study Bible)

Daniel, like Ezekiel, was a Jewish captive in Babylon. He was of royal or priestly descent (1:3). His long life extended from Nebuchadnezzar to Cyrus. He was a contemporary of Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Ezra and Zerubbabel.

Consider the themes of Daniel, which are: the four beasts, the Ancient of Days, The Son of man, the desecration of the temple, the prophecy of the seventy weeks, the manifestation of the man of sin, the great tribulation, the two witnesses, the return of the Messiah, the resurrections and the judgments.

Daniel is distinctively the prophet of the “times of the Gentiles” (Luke 21:24), (See Scofield “Luke 21:24”). His vision sweeps the whole course of Gentile world-rule to its end in catastrophe, and to the setting up of the Messianic Kingdom.

Introduction to Daniel (MacArthur Study Bible)

According to Hebrew custom, the title is drawn from the prophet who, throughout the book, received revelations from God. Daniel bridges the entire 70 years of the Babylonian captivity (ca. 605–536 B.C.; cf. 1:1 and 9:1–3). Nine of the twelve chapters relate revelation through dreams/visions. Daniel was God’s mouthpiece to the Gentile and Jewish world, declaring God’s current and future plans. What Revelation is to the NT prophetically and apocalyptically, Daniel is to the OT.

The following outline comes from the Scofield Study Bible. This study of Daniel is not a verse by verse examination of scriptures. Instead, the emphasis is placed on key areas that relate to the, “God’s Plan For The Ages,” study.
